So a quick recap of the goings on...
Merra & I took a quick Thanksgiving roadtrip to the South...
beautiful sunrise in LouisianaAnd a fun few weeks at home for Christmas
Then.. off to Guatemala!
So let's see.. My friend Leslie & I flew down to Guatemala from Denver on January 4th, got picked up by the 'La Union' staff who took me straight to Antigua to attend their language school for the we. I was initially reluctant to reveal the fact to anyone that I lost my passport the very first day... but thanks to a diligent language school director, they found it on the shuttle that had picked me up at the airport. Hopefully that doesn't happen again..
I stayed with a host family in Antigua which was beneficial for my Espanol practice but I can't say a lot of words were exchanged. There happened to be another girl, Sanna, being hosted by the same family who was living there for a few months while she took a break from nursing school, learned Spanish, and volunteered at a hospital. And she was from Stockholm, Sweden no less! So if I'm able to visit Vera at some point I'll definitely have to let her know. She was my official translator during my stay as her English was nearly flawless and her Spanish was much better than my own.
Four short days of Spanish lessons, a tour of Antigua, hangin' out at Parque Central, a Salsa dancing lesson, climbing Volcan de Pacaya, and Leslie & I were back to Guatemala City
