life in Guate

So I've already been in Guatemala for 6 weeks... who knew it would pass so quickly?! Since my blogging consistency has been severely lacking, I'll bring everyone up to speed on my life here in this tortilla and frijole lovin country.

1. Speaking of food, first things first... the food is delicious.
this here's a treat from Cafe Saul... french toast with cream cheese, syrup, nutella, and fruit. When they have Nutella lining an entire wall and Death by Chocolate is an item on the dessert menu, you know the place has gotta be good.
And the fruit.. how much fresher can you get? Pretty much my breakfast every morning.
And I think McD's tastes better here. There 12Q Big Mac's are muy delicioso!
(After our Futeca game yesterday, Elaine, Leslie, Jen, and Melissa)

2. I get to teach really cute kids.I wish you could meet them all... they're a good bunch! And my awesome mentor teacher, Kelly, who's helping me learn the fine art of teaching:)Here they're all dressed up as if they're from Morocco for the 100th day of school/100 cultures celebration. The girl's name in the front is Katia! I showed her a picture of my sister, Katia, and she thought that was pretty cool...

3. I have a fun roommate! And we share an awesome apartment...
Linda's from D.C. and this is her first year teaching at CAG and kindly offered to take me in for the semester!

4. I have some awesome friends here..Katie and Esau who faithfully pick me up for meetings and put up with my poor Espanol.. Katie's from North Dakota but living with Esau's family for the semester. You'll definitely be seeing more of these two:)

5. I got spoiled on my birthday!
Some of the teachers took me out for some Mexican food (my favorite:)
Each of the kids had card made for me and Ms. Seagrave's made cookies for the occasion
Katie & Esau came over and brought me some beautiful flowers.. and Katie made me a huge chocolate cake to top it off!

6. I joined a Futeca team.. the Shooters... and we're awesome
I haven't played soccer since 4th grade and I'm still working on actually making a goal...

7. There are some things I've already decided I'm going to miss about Guatemala.
If there are any laws here in this country, I'm not aware of them.

8. It's beautiful here!
Last weekend we went to Rio Dulce (near the Caribbean) and although it rained the whole time, it was still warmer than the city..

And as always, my smugmug site has more pictures to fill in the gaps.
Now I'll try not to forget I actually have a blog now and try to keep this thing updated now:)

I just finished looking at your smugmug site and I have a few observations/comments...

1. Isn't the outside restaurant thing COOL!!??!! :) I went to one when I was in Ecaudor and it was just awesome. :)

2. Is there a girl in your class with cancer? I'm guessing that's why she has no hair. :(

3. That was an awesome picture of the city at night!

4. The restaurant that you were at for your birthday...VERY COOL red spiky light fixtures!!! I want some for my house!! ;)

Hey! Esa and I made an appearance in your blog! I'm honored, and I know he will be too. :) I really enjoyed your pictures and comments, especially "if there are any laws in this country, I'm not aware of them." Ha ha... that pretty much just sums it all up, doesn't it?

Laura, I was checking up on your smugmug and discovered you have a blog. So fun to keep up with your activites in Guatemala. Sue & Julie are here for the weekend with Beth. Think it was Sue's wedding you girls played for, maybe?
